ABSTRACT
The article highlights the Great Britain Office for Standards in Education annual report on the status of disadvantaged children in Great Britain. According to chief inspector Christine Gilbert, only 12% of 16-year-olds in public care achieved five or more good BGSEs in 2006 compared with 59% of all 16-year-olds. The report revealed some connections between poverty and educational underachievement.
