ABSTRACT
The article reports on the call on President George W. Bush to boost funding for food-safety in 2009 by U.S. Senators after they have sighted the insufficient fund of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). The president has proposed to add $10.5 million to the agency's food-safety budget, but it has yet to be approved by the House of Congress. In a statement, the FDA asserts that the $1.9 billion agency cannot achieve its mission due to the inadequacy of its scientific base and information technology (IT) infrastructure.
