ABSTRACT
The article discusses a report by the trade association Casinos de France which cited that 2007 was not a good financial year for France's casino industry. The report was based on a survey of 190 of the country's 197 casinos which showed that only 30 showed year-over-year increases while 100 showed declines. According to the association, the country's strict identity verification system, and taxes are to be blamed for the declines. A nationwide smoking ban as well as the liberalization of online gambling market are major causes of concern.
