ABSTRACT
The article reports on the increase in the number of public single-sex schools in the U.S. from 4 or 5 in 1998 to nearly 250 in 2008. It explains the benefits of single-sex schools to students. Single-sex schools in cities such as Detroit, Michigan have been able to document an increase in attendance and decline in disciplinary problems. It says that everyone in the country expects a rise in the number of single-sex schools once the Department of Education issue a new and liberalized regulations.
