ABSTRACT
A reprint of the article "How AIDS was discovered," by Tolu Ajayi, which appeared in the monthly newsletter of the Cathedral Church of Christ in Lagos, Nigeria, is presented. It explores the proliferation of opportunistic infections that were common in male homosexuals, thus the first very name given to the disease was Gay Related Immune Deficiency (GRID). It mentions that the initial name given to AIDS virus was Lymphadenopathy Associated Virus (LAV) because of the lymph nodes that swell up in many AIDS patients.
