ABSTRACT
The article discusses the significant progress of the U.S. Internal Revenue Service's (IRS) internal controls and financial management beginning at its first financial statement audit in 1992. However, it is inferred that despite this financial progression, IRS managed to improve its financial management. To which end, the Government Accountability Office (GAO) claims to have categorized 81 open recommendations to assist IRS in its evaluation of its internal controls.
