The article presents a strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats (SWOT) analysis of political, security, defence and economic systems of Greece as of third quarter of 2008. Included in strengths discussed is the re-election of the centre-right New Democracy (ND) party in September 2007 and the reduction of the budget deficit since the ND first came to power in 2004. Weaknesses such as the long term fiscal risks posed by the rapidly ageing population and the recent reduction in defence expenditure are also presented.
