ABSTRACT
The article reports on the Orthographic accord that was signed by Portugal's Head of State, Aníbal Cavaco Silva, which will standardize Portuguese language spelling. The accord that was drafted according to the framework of the Community of Portuguese Language Countries (CPLP) was formally ratified on May 16, 2008 by the Portuguese parliament. In line with the accord, a 30 million-euro language fund has been established, and up to 600 teachers will be dispatched to CPLP states.
