And Baby Makes Two

Whitehead, Barbara Dafoe

Commonweal;10/10/2008, Vol. 135 Issue 17, p8
The article discusses the reason for the increase in teenage pregnancy in the U.S. The Republican Party change its view on teenage pregnancy and consider it as one of the challenges of middle-class family life after the announcement on the pregnancy of the unmarried daughter of Governor Sarah Palin. The high rate of teenage birth in the early 1990s is attributed to the premise that teenagers were misinformed about sex. In the author's view, the change in the early-life-pattern of young women hinders the effectiveness of abstinence-only education.
