ABSTRACT
In this article the author discusses the history of Brazilians of Japanese descent, the article having been written in 2008, the centenary of the first Japanese immigration to Brazil. The article describes the Japanese experience including early discrimination, their internment during World War Two and the violence that split the Japanese community following the surrender of Japan.
