This article examines the pressures on school districts to improve student achievement without lowering standards. The authors' Rockville district in New York starting using the honors-level curriculum for all students. They found that it closed the achievement gap and still allowed high-achievers to thrive. The district also revised the curriculum to accelerate learning for all students. Teachers had to adapt to the new paradigm by designing lessons to serve both for high and low achievers simultaneously.
