ABSTRACT
The article reports on U.S. Treasury Department money and how U.S. banks are using it. Lawmakers are asking banks to be able to account for how they are using the government capital infusions. However, most banks are putting the money onto their balance sheets where it is then sent out to different purposes which are hard to account for. The U.S. House amended the automobile industry bailout bill mandating banks receiving such money account for lending changes.
