ABSTRACT
The article discusses several situations and possible risks where a hospital could be liable to lawsuits if admitted patients are boarded at the emergency department. Based on the U.S Joint Commission's standards and requirements, admitted patients are to get the same level of care as they would receive at inpatient units. It also mentions that publications have shown that boarding is dangerous and patients' level of care while boarding tend to be inferior in many hospitals.
