ABSTRACT
This article reports on wind turbines. It discusses that the rise in the cost of petroleum oil has increased the search for viable alternative technologies. It mentions that wind power is one option under consideration because it operates by using the wind's energy to spin a shaft that drives an electricity-producing generator. Doctor Larry Viterna of NASA Glenn Research Center indicated that the gearbox remains the number one challenge in the wind turbine industry. He argues that as wind turbines increase in size and gain more power, the level of torque increases.
