ABSTRACT
The article examines the transformation of a traditional classroom nursing curriculum to an online program. The authors explain that online nursing programs, such as RN to BSN completion programs, are becoming more popular with the growing demand for nurses with advanced formal education. They cite the need for nurses with enhanced critical thinking and problem solving. An example of an introductory nursing course which incorporates problem-based learning is presented. Research which shows that problem-based learning motivates students to engage in content and encourages collaboration is mentioned. The process of transforming the course by identifying desired outcomes is described. A backward design process and course design are discussed.
