The article reports on the decision of Simon Property Group Inc. to pay out its fourth quarter dividend in the form of 90% stock instead of cash in the U.S. It is stated that the decision which was made during Simon's 2008 year-end result report could trigger a new trend for retail real estate investment trust (REIT). Moreover, if the decision will be adopted for the remainder 2009, the stock dividend will allow Simon to retain $925 million in cash in 2009.
