ABSTRACT
This article discusses the emergence and the roles of investment bankers. The spurt of big business in the last part of the 19th century had brought to a new figure in the American finance industry, the investment banker. Just like J. P. Morgan, the American investment banker became internationally famous, the very symbol of economic power. Investment bankers who serve as promoter, financier and bond salesman had been helpful in building up and consolidating the nation's railroad network.
