ABSTRACT
The article reports on the demand of Neil Barofsky, inspector general of the Troubled Asset Relief Program (TARP), for the U.S. Treasury Department to guard the Public-Private Investment Program (PPIP). It is stated that Barofsky urged the agency to install safeguards to prevent asset managers from taking advantage of PPIP at the expense of taxpayers. Barofsky revealed that several aspects of PPIP could make it inherently vulnerable to fraud, waste and abuse.
