ABSTRACT
The article highlights the Education Act of 1918 which was passed in Ireland to lift the financial burden from Catholic schools at the end of World War I. Provisions of the Act were said to be more permissive than mandatory in nature, and mandated the transfer of Catholic schools into the national system to ensure its funding. Government funds were earmarked for the maintenance, equipment and building of more Catholic schools where needed, the provision of transportation for school children and higher salaries for religion teachers.
