ABSTRACT
The article reports on the plans of the Certification Commission for Health Information Technology (HIT) to revamp electronic health records (EHR) certification. The revamped certification efforts were based on preliminary definition recommendations from federal HIT advisory committees. To be launched in October 2009 is a modular inspection program for EHR software that only focuses on compliance with standards required for meaningful use of EHR which is part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.
