ABSTRACT
The article focuses on the need for mariners to take necessary precautions and implement best practices in light of pirate attacks on the M/V Harriett and Maersk Alabama off the coast of Somalia according to U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood. He commended the successful piracy defense of the ships. He noted the intention of the government to collaborate with ship operators to protect Americans in piracy-prone regions.
