iPS cells: potent stuff

The article reports on the significance of induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) in the study of biology and application in human diseases. As stated, the technique developed by scientist, Shinya Yamanaka's lab at Kyoto University, Japan enabled mature rat cells behave like embryonic stem cells. Reportedly, hundreds of human iPSC lines have already been made using samples from people with diseases ranging from diabetes to Down's syndrome and spinal muscular atrophy to study the significance.
