ABSTRACT
The article presents an analysis and critique of the Beutelsbach Consensus, which is a statement of educational principles developed in Beutelsbach, Germany, related to the teaching of politics. The chief concepts of the consensus include a ban on indoctrination, controversiality or multiple viewpoints on a topic, and a pupil's orientation to his own position of interest. Weaknesses in the didactic program outlined are explored.
