ABSTRACT
The article reports on the urge of Latvian Minister of the European Parliament (MEP) Tatjana Zdanoka for the European Commission to use the legal changes introduced by the Lisbon Treaty to protect the rights of minority languages in the European Union (EU). It notes that the MEPs have accused the Commission of failing to set out initiatives to promote minority languages. It also notes that Zdanoka wanted the Commission to monitor the EU countries treatment for minority languages.
