ABSTRACT
The article describes the threat posed by the melting of sea ice in the frigid Arctic region to the population and habitat of the Pacific walrus as of December 2009. In effect, it states, the disappearing ice leads in walruses gathering in large numbers of land. The melting is attributed by scientists to the phenomenon of global warming. A study conducted in India showed that the glaciers in Kashmir mountains are also melting fast.
