ABSTRACT
The article focuses on the main technologies that can be set up in Ireland in the next 20 years while taking into account the renewables target in 2020 and the retirement of the existing coal-, oil,- and peat-fired stations. It highlights that nuclear power is an option in cutting Ireland's carbon emissions, but the deficiency of nuclear generation may make it unworkable. Concurrently, nuclear power is still banned by law in Ireland and will not deem to match with the country's green image.
