Gimbaled Heads Improve Vessel Head Inspections

The article focuses on the initiatives of Entergy Nuclear Inc. employees at Palisades Power Plant and AREVA team to improve the inspection process of a nuclear reactor nozzle at the Davis-Besse Nuclear Power Station in Ohio. They use the SUMO-Rocky platform robot. They alter the ultrasonic transducers in a gimbaled head that saves time and gives the team a consistently accurate inspection. Two different mock-ups are built to test and qualify the multi-gimbaled transducer heads.
