Time;11/10/1975, Vol. 106 Issue 19, p22
The article focuses on the results of a Government study by the U.S. Office of Education in 1975 and a survey by the University of Texas team concerning the literacy of adult Americans. The study shows that one out of five or more than 23 million adult Americans lack in skills and knowledge that are required for adult competence. Moreover, it shows that 14% of 1,500 Americans who were surveyed could not properly write a bank check, while 27% were not aware of the normal body temperature.
