The $5 Crisis

August 1952
The article deals with the crisis concerning the arrest of a couple of British sailors from H.M.S. Belfast in Kobe, Japan on June 30, 1952. The sailors were sentenced 2½ years at hard labor for robbery and assault. According to the author, the government of Great Britain had been one of the members of the United Nations (UN) negotiating with Japan to secure for the troops of the international organization the same privileges that the government of Tokyo has offered the security forces of the U.S. in its country.
