ABSTRACT
The article reports that European Union carbon emission allowance (EUA) prices rose in August, 2010. The increase is partially attributed to the United Nations (UN) reducing the supply of emission offset credits related to the greenhouse gas hydrofluorocarbon-23. Environmentalists had charged that the credits were so profitable, some chemical industry companies were deliberately producing the gas as a waste product in order to destroy it for the credits.
