ABSTRACT
The article reports on the global drilling industry's re-configuration, re-design and re-engineering of rigs due which focuses on the capacity of the blowout prevention (BOP) systems. It mentions that the changes in operating regulations resulted from the British Petroleum's (BP) oil leak accident in the Gulf of Mexico. It says that the changes were not yet clearly indicated however, changes on the BOP installation facilities, capacities and capabilities of the rigs were critically looked at.
