ABSTRACT
The author reflects on the European Shippers' Council's (ESC) formation of a working group that will investigate if the grey box concept, or the pooling and sharing of unmarked containers, could alleviate container equipment shortages and lessen carbon dioxide emissions. He expresses his confusion on the ESC's intention in forming such group and on the level of expertise does it has that understands the complexities of how equipment operations work. He also comments on the direct link of the concept to the wording of the Shipping Act of 2010 in the U.S.
