ABSTRACT
The article offers the preliminary observations of U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO) on the condition of several Department of Homeland Security (DHS) border protection programs. It says that the Secure Border Initiative network (SBInet) program, which was replaced by Alternative (Southwest) Border Technology program, was rather useful for the Border Patrol. It suggests that there are uncertainties over the cost-effectiveness and suitability issues of several components of SBInet.
