ABSTRACT
The article examines the dynamics and significance of the U.S.-United Nations (UN) partnership. In the author's opinion, U.S. leaders should be more consistent in their focus on strengthening the UN if they want to rely on the UN as an effective international partner. He points out the key role of the UN in global efforts to curb the nuclear ambitions of Iran and North Korea and secure and coordinate humanitarian assistance, among others. He cites the tendency of the U.S. to reserve its right to veto or avoid participating in UN decisions that are contrary to its interests. He advises U.S. policymakers to agree on the meaning of a UN reform.
