ABSTRACT
The article comments on nuclear power and its potential role as a cheaper source of energy and electricity in the U.S. in 1979. The author discusses the need for electric utilities to build either coal-fired or nuclear plants to meet future demand for electricity. Because the use of oil for the generation of electricity costs $6 billion every year, coal-fired and nuclear plants are less-costly alternatives for power generation. Other alternative energy sources are also considered.
