ABSTRACT
The article discusses a study conducted by the Government Accountability Office (GAO) on the financial management operations of the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) in the U.S. It looks at the challenges faced by IRS in managing its financial statements along with its efforts to address the weaknesses identified by GAO. It also provides the recommendations of GAO on financial audit and financial management and the actions needed to be taken by IRS to attain an effective internal control practices.
