ABSTRACT
The article discusses what the author sees as the incoherent nature of the U.S. immigration system and argues for a more liberal immigration policy. Particular focus is given to the legal obstacles of obtaining employment and developing businesses that both high- and low-skilled U.S. immigrants face. An overview of the difficulties faced by family members of U.S. citizens and permanent residents who would like to immigrate to the U.S. is discussed. The impact of a restrictive U.S. immigration policy on the amount of illegal immigrants in the country is also discussed.
