ABSTRACT
The article offers suggestions for teaching and encouraging discussion about controversial science topics. Recommendations include creating clear goals for the lesson, being well-versed in the issue before teaching it, gaining permission from administration and parents if necessary, and assessing student's grasp of the topic with reports, tests, or in-class debates.
