ABSTRACT
Private-sector deposits fell nearly 3% in Jan. to less than 175 bil euros, the lowest since Nov. '06, the ECB said. Bank deposits are 28% below their Dec. '09 peak, as businesses and consumers shield themselves from risks that Greece may exit the euro or that the banking sector collapses. Moody's noted Greek banks have been drawing down savings.
