ABSTRACT
The article reports on the challenges which many hospital chief executive officers in U.S. hospitals are facing in 2012 as a result of health care reform and economic uncertainties. A discussion of a report titled "Hospitals and Care Systems of the Future", which was published by the American Hospital Association's Committee on Performance Improvement, and discusses strategies and competencies that hospitals need to adapt to health care reform, is presented.
