ABSTRACT
The article focuses on national flags. Graham Bartram of Great Britain's Flag Institute talks about how flags represent identity but that the identity can be open to interpretation. The article suggests that national flags attempt to distill a nation's values, traditions, and beliefs into a few shapes and colors. It mentions that modern flag aesthetics evolved from coats of arms and comments on how symbols in the flag reflect geography, religion, culture or history.
