ABSTRACT
The author discusses her ambivalence at the deal that the Israeli government made for the release of Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit, who was kidnapped by the Islamist group Hamas. She mentions the Israeli government's agreement to free more than 1,000 Arab prisoners, many of whom are alleged terrorists, in exchange for Shalit. She expresses joy for Shalit's parents at the prospect for their son's freedom and fear that the release of the terrorists would put the lives of many people at risk.
