ABSTRACT
The article discusses storage technologies for renewable energy surpluses such as wind and solar power. It is noted that pumped storage is a common method for conventional fossil fuel and nuclear power storage. Particular focus is given to the development of storage technologies using compressed air and liquid air battery storage plants. Other topics include waste heat thermodynamics, government investment in renewable energy storage, and an automobile engine which runs on liquid air. INSET: RUNNING ON EMPTY.
