ABSTRACT
The article examines the effect of biofuel policies of the U.S. and European Union (EU) accompanied by a carbon tax, by allowing for the endogenous conversion of marginal lands to farming in order to produce food and fuel. It mentions that in the U.S., 94 percent of biofuel production comes from corn ethanol, while 76 percent of EU production is biodiesel from rapeseed, and calculates the carbon footprints of the biofuels.
