Behind the MVSD vs. VFD debate

The article focuses on Mechanical variable-speed drives (MVSD) which are used in rotating machineries. The drive consists of planetary gear system and is employed with hydraulic torque converters. An effective cost analysis is conducted to determine the use of such machines. Although the drive is an effective tool the author recommends it should not be used with low voltage electric motor nor should they be used in large rotating machines.
