ABSTRACT
The Federal Gun Control Act of 1963, is the subject of the current controversy in Congress. Since its inception, the Act has been regarded by some as too burdensome on the sellers and purchasers of firearms used by law-abiding citizens. Discussion of this issue includes: evolution of federal gun controls; present basic law; summary of S.49 (proposed Firearm Owners' Protection Act); recent action in Congress and a debate on the pros and cons of relaxation of handgun controls.
