In 1985 the Toledo Edison's Davis-Besse nuclear power plant suffered the most serious nuclear mishap since Three Mile Island. No radiation was released but the result was an 18-month shutdown, the firing of some top managers, and a major program overhaul. Several other US facilities also need major modifications. Ten percent of US reactors are currently shut down. INSET: Nuclear power plant workers, on night shift, literally....
