ABSTRACT
The article reports that U.S. senators have voted in favor of expanding background checks for gun owners. However, the 54-46 vote was not enough to stop a filibuster of the bipartisan bill. The measure was opposed by Republicans, saying it would lead to the creation of a national gun registry which would infringe lawful gun owners' Second Amendment rights.
