The article comments on the detention of asylum seekers. It cites the potential of detained asylum seekers to suffer deprivation of their liberty and other abuses of human rights. It argues that detention is an expensive option of managing migration and affects people and their capacity to be independent, self-sufficient and fulfilled members of the community. It asserts that there is a lack of care for the rights, safety and protection and sustainable reintegration of asylum seekers.
