ABSTRACT
The article discusses the historical significance and value of a letter written by U.S. Civil War soldier George Finley concerning the Battle of Malvern Hill in 1863, in addition to a map of the battlefield he drew. The article recommends that visitors to the battlefield have Finley's letter with them. It also discusses the preservation of the battlefield as a result of the efforts of the organization the Civil War Trust and the U.S. National Park Service.
